I read a book earlier this year called Finite and Infinite Games by James P. Carse.
It’s a DENSE read that require several rereads to fully “get”.
In essence, everything can be boiled down to two kinds of games. Finite and Infinite. Games, in this context, are situations and circumstances. Situations like relationships, jobs, health, and pain. Circumstances like kids, bosses, and home.
The trick is to figure out what games you are playing. Often you are playing many games at the same time.
The link below is a good highlight reel of the book. It’s no substitute for the text but it is a good start.
Read the article and think about one game you play: your significant other, your kids, your boss, etc. Try and see that situation through the lens of the “game”. Think about that and what a proactive stance might be.
Doing that will open your eyes and strengthen your play.
